Diamond Anvil Cells
The High Pressure Platform of IMPMC disposes a pool of 15 diamond anvil cells (DACs) of different types, the vast majority of them being membrane-driven DACs. The maximum force that can be applied to the diamonds has an upper limit that depends on cell design and how the force is applied (e.g., screws, screws with belleville washers, and membrane). To reach very high pressures, the area over which the force is applied is typically decreased, and sometimes beveled or double beveled anvils are used.
